ZEELAND, Mich., June 6, 2025--Herman Miller introduces the Gemma Seating Family to meet the needs of individuals within healthcare settings. The collection includes the Gemma Recliner, Sleep Chair, Flop Sofa, and Double Sleep Sofa. With its modern aesthetic and intuitive, easy-to-use mechanisms, Gemma creates a welcoming environment that helps ease the stress that patients and caregivers may feel during a significant time.
Gemma reduces the time people need to think about the furniture, giving them more time to focus on patient health. Each seating type was designed to feel familiar, allowing individuals to easily maneuver to suit their needs. An optional adjustable tray table helps people get comfortable with a sturdy surface for reading, using a laptop, snacks, or interacting with others. For an overnight stay, an intuitive pull-tab helps transition Gemma Sleep Chair and Gemma Double Sleep Sofa for sleeping.
With three recliner sizes, a sleep chair, and two types of sleep sofas, this collection combines comfort and style, while making it possible to maintain a cohesive aesthetic. An inviting color palette and range of leg options—including standard 5” casters—provide the versatility to adapt to various room sizes and settings across consult, patient, respite, and waiting rooms.
Gemma Recliner
From the patient to the clinical staff supporting their care, the Gemma Recliner is thoughtfully designed to accommodate care teams and patients with different mobilities. The Gemma Recliner is available in three sizes—compact, standard, and plus—to suit various needs within consult, patient, respite, and waiting rooms. Multiple locations for the reclining button on the inner arm of the chair and a push-bar and fold down arm enhance functionality for care teams—the push-bar helps maneuver the recliner easily within the space, and the fold down arm allows for better accessibility.
Gemma Sleep Chair
The Gemma Sleep Chair makes it simple for individuals to comfortably transition between sitting and sleeping. A one-step mechanism creates a seamless transition into a one-person sleep surface. In addition to the adjustable tray table, an optional storage compartment holds personal belongings—keeping items accessible and out of the way.
Gemma Flop Sofa
The Gemma Flop Sofa is available in three sizes—68 inches, 74 inches, and 80 inches—to accommodate patient rooms of varying sizes and suit many healthcare facility types. The Flop Sofa allows guests to quickly transition between visiting and sleep modes.
Gemma Double Sleep Sofa
The Gemma Double Sleep Sofa provides a comfortable experience for up to two individuals, supporting caregiving dynamics, including those commonly found in pediatric spaces. An intuitive three-step mechanism creates a seamless transition from a sofa to a two-person sleep surface.
The Gemma Seating Family is more than just seating; it helps individuals feel comfortable and cared for,” says Michelle Ossmann, PhD, Director of Research for MillerKnoll. “We created Gemma to reduce the time both staff and families need to think about the furniture—the breadth of the collection is designed to create a consistent and calming feel throughout facilities.”
Mora System Enhancements
Herman Miller also introduces updates to the award-winning Mora System, designed by Colin Nourie, to include new configurations and products. Mora’s purposeful design organizes supplies and keeps surfaces clear of clutter, creating a sense of calm within the space and allowing more time for care providers to enhance relationships with patients. New features include expanded upper cabinets, shelving, and towers; soft-close hinges and slides; a recycle/trash cabinet; a benching option; and new standard hardware and design details.
“The additions to the Mora System continue its legacy of providing scalable, modular, prefabricated casework in healthcare settings. Now, with expanded cabinets, shelving, and tower configurations, Mora can be added anywhere millwork is used; breakrooms, lounges, respite areas, creating new possibilities for education and commercial environments,” says Matt Sall, Director of Healthcare Product Category for MillerKnoll.
The Gemma Seating Family and the Mora System will be available to experience in a new dedicated healthcare space within MillerKnoll’s new Chicago location, debuting for Fulton Market Design Days taking place from June 9-11, 2025. They will also be featured at the Healthcare Design Conference + Expo in October.
The Gemma Seating Family and the Mora System can be purchased in the Americas, Middle East, and Africa through MillerKnoll dealers beginning in late June 2025. Timing and availability by region may vary. Visit the Herman Miller website for your region for availability.
