Knoll has been awarded five 2012 GOOD DESIGN™ Awards by The Chicago Athenaeum, an International Museum of Architecture and Design, for ReGeneration by Knoll®, the Lounge Collection, the Olivares Aluminum Chair and two KnollTextiles introductions.
ReGeneration by Knoll®, the newest member of the ergonomic, Generation by Knoll® family of chairs, has been praise by Wired magazine, Popular Science and TreeHugger, among others, for its flexibility with streamlined form and features. Its straightforward design leverages flexible and durable materials and uses recycled, rapidly-renewable and biobased materials and redefines efficiency.
The Lounge Collection by Pierre Beucler and Jean-Christophe Poggioli, also a recipient of the 2012 GOOD DESIGN™ Awards, debuted at Salone 2012 in May and was also previewed at NeoCon 2012 in June. The collection embodies casual elegance while maintaining a contemporary aesthetic.
The Olivares Aluminum Chair offers a restrained sculptural presence for a variety of environments. Constructed of a three-millimeter-thick die-cast aluminum shell, the Olivares Side chair allows a sitter to rest especially comfortably. The chair offers restrained sculptural presence for a variety of environments and its boldly outlined die-cast aluminum shell is available in a bright contemporary outdoor powder coated palette.
Two KnollTextiles introductions also received 2012 GOOD Design™ Awards, including the Vivid Collection by Trove for KnollTextiles. The Collection debuted at NeoCon 2012, where it also received a Best of NeoCon Award. The Collection is a three pattern group that brings the gestural and tactile element of painting to the world of wall covering and features a dynamic study of color and movement. It features three digitally printed patterns: Swerve, Sway and Swoosh.
The second KnollTextiles GOOD DESIGN™ recipient, the KnollTextiles Glass Collection, designed by Dorothy Cosonas, is an iconic collection of seven patterns that rediscover the nonchalant luxury of classic textiles. Linear, undulating, textural, playful, and organic designs translate textile weaves onto glass with a range of scales and opacities. Historic yet timeless, these eco-friendly patterns are well suited for corporate and healthcare environments.
The historic GOOD DESIGN™ program was founded in 1950 with the participation of some of America's most important designers, including Eero Saarinen, Florence Knoll, Harry Bertoia, Alexander Girard and Russel Wright. Awards are given to designers and manufacturers for advancing new and innovative product concepts that stretch the envelope beyond what is considered standard product and consumer design.
