At NeoCon 2015, Herman Miller Healthcare and Nemschoff apply human-centered design thinking to environments for working and healing. Through the combination of Nemschoff’s expertise with design for patients and families, and Herman Miller’s expertise with design for the care team, the NeoCon presentation in space 3-330 demonstrates how effective design and furnishings can elevate health and wellness spaces across the continuum of care.
The showroom illustrates distinct moments from a patient’s journey of care. Each setting has been optimized to meet the functional and emotional needs of the patient, their guests, and their caregivers in those moments. The displayed settings break from conventional healthcare environments to offer more natural and desirable ways to work and heal. The showroom flows from setting to setting, demonstrating how surroundings, furnishings, and tools can be seamlessly integrated to create holistic environments that function better, and feel better to the people within them.
The settings on display include a welcoming and well-appointed waiting area that supports a range of waiting activities and accommodates the needs of individuals, couples, groups, and families with children. A Treatment Room provides a home-like setting to create familiarity and comfort. Devoid of distractions, the Consult Room supports important conversations. A workplace Wellness Room enables users to focus on their well-being in a private space. Highlighting the growing role of education in healthcare, a space specifically outfitted for learning keeps people engaged with materials and connected to each other. With these diverse settings, Herman Miller Healthcare and Nemschoff demonstrate how the principles of a Healthcare Living Office can be applied in real organizations to improve the experience of care.
Three new product introductions are woven into the healthcare showroom at NeoCon 2015: The Ava Recliner, Easton Multiple Seating, and Parsons tables.
Introducing the Ava Recliner
With the Ava Recliner, designed by David Ritch and Mark Saffell of 5d Studio, Nemschoff introduces a lighter, more inviting seating option that is both intuitively comforting and comfortable for patients even when sitting for long stretches. Caregivers find Ava responsive to their needs, with thoughtful features like pivoting arms, dual-sided controls, and lay-flat recline.
A departure from the typical recliner, Ava’s lean form is designed to operate easily even in smaller patient rooms, without compromising on comfort or the interior size of the seat. The wingback model provides a feeling of security, while a reverse recline and independent footrest controls increase comfort. Improved kinematics provide a back pivot location that more closely mimics the body’s movement. Side tables enhance functionality, while oversized twin wheel casters improve mobility.
Introducing Easton Multiple Seating
Easton, a sleek seating system with a metal base, makes for a more accommodating and comfortable waiting experience. Its variety of sizes and heights can be combined to easily meet the needs of individuals, families, and those who are physically challenged.
The durable construction provides lasting performance, and an open, sled-base design makes it easy to keep the seating area clean. Spanner tables with integrated power can be easily added to hold and charge personal devices. Multiple seating and table options, including Plus and Easy Access chairs, let Easton accommodate guests with varying needs.
Introducing Parsons Tables
Offering ultimate versatility, the new Parsons table collection from Nemschoff allows for seamless transitions between many different styles and spaces. Offering a wide variety of materials, colors, and configurations, Parsons tables work beautifully with any combination of furniture. The neutral design of the Parsons table offering provides consistency between dining or snack areas and lobbies and waiting rooms. Optional integrated power enables designers to easily create a space that anticipates the myriad needs of patients, guests, and healthcare staff.
