Artek and Maharam will come together this fall to introduce the Maharam Edition Artek Stool 60—a collection pairing twenty Maharam textiles with the iconic stool designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933.
Maharam’s range of color, pattern, texture, and natural materials of cotton, leather, mohair, and wool come to life on one of the most elemental and versatile pieces of furniture, Aalto’s three-legged wooden stool. Honey, walnut, and clear lacquer finishes were chosen in combination with textiles highlighting the breadth of Maharam’s textile offering including those designed by the Maharam Design Studio, Hella Jongerius, Konstantin Grcic, Paul Smith, Sander Lak, Studio Job, and Scholten & Baijings, as well as archival reissues by Alexander Girard and Josef Hoffmann.
Designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933 and manufactured by Artek ever since, Artek’s seminal Stool 60 is equally suitable as a seat, table, storage unit, or display surface. Made in Finland of Finnish birch, Stool 60 is available in a wide array of colors and finishes. Several million units of Stool 60 and its four-legged cousin, Stool E60, have been sold, making it one of the most cherished products in the history of design.
Artek and Maharam are as complementary as they are unique in their respective fields. United in their dedication to tradition and innovation, both companies work across creative disciplines. The collection attests to Artek and Maharam’s distinct material vocabularies and pursuit of enduringly beautiful and functional design.
The Maharam Edition Artek Stool 60 is available exclusively in North America through Design Within Reach and maharam.com beginning November 3, 2021.
