Our Impact
Retiring from a company doesn’t always mean you walk away from it entirely. Ten Herman Miller retirees recently teamed up to make a difference in the West Michigan community.
In partnership with Herman Miller Cares, this group of retirees created the Power of 10 Initiative – a fundraiser for Community Action House, a nonprofit in Holland, Michigan, working to provide local families with food, clothing, shelter, and the opportunity to build necessary skills to achieve a stable and prosperous life.
The Power of 10 Initiative encouraged community members to give back in 10 different ways, ultimately benefiting the Community Action House and its food security program. Opportunities included hosting a food drive, donating financially, and building Family Food Boxes.
“It is such an incredible honor to be able to support our communities in any way we can,” said Linda Brand, Executive Director of Herman Miller Cares. “This could not have been possible without our retirees rallying around this effort and coming together to amplify an amazing cause.”
Herman Miller Cares supported the Power of 10 initiative by providing a dollar-for-dollar match, with donors from across the country making an impact in West Michigan. In addition, the foundation is partnering with local dealer Trellis, to support Community Action House in expanding its office space to enable more community members to be served with dignity and care.
“One of our values at Herman Miller is ‘we are difference makers,’” said Brand. “Those values remain true even among those who have retired from our company. It is amazing what can be accomplished when the community comes together to positively impact the lives of others.”
