MillerKnoll Employees Participate in Global Day of Purpose

Employees from across MillerKnoll brands participated in an annual Global Day of Purpose on November 2 – a day for employees around the world to give back to their communities. Herman Miller hosted its first Day of Purpose in 2020, and the day was expanded following the creation of MillerKnoll earlier this year. Each year, MillerKnoll will designate this day as a paid day off so all 11,000 employees can participate and make a positive difference.

“We believe in using our business as a force for good,” said Linda Brand, Executive Director of the company’s global corporate giving program. “When we all come together and make an impact on our communities, we’re continuing our legacy of designing for the good of humankind and creating a better world.”

Employees in the US were also encouraged to take some time on this day to vote in local elections as part of the company’s commitment to Lowering Barriers to Voting.

“Using our freedom to vote and affect change is a civic duty we want to ensure every employee has equitable access to,” said Brand. “By having this day off, we’re ensuring work schedules aren’t discouraging employees from getting out and voting, and we’re encouraging our global team members to give back in ways most meaningful to them.”

Employees were provided with several ideas on ways to volunteer and were given resources to engage with their local nonprofits around the globe. An exclusive fundraising match was also an option for employees to participate in the day and raise funds for causes they care about.

Employees spent the day cleaning up parks and beaches, donating blood, packing and making meals, volunteering at a variety of nonprofit organizations, donating essential supplies, building desks for schoolchildren, visiting nursing homes, lending a helping hand to a neighbor in need, and so much more.

The top five most popular giving categories were:

  • Environment and Sustainability
  • Health and Well-being
  • Food and Hunger
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
  • Civic Engagement
